Ask why it picked this approach over another

When Claude Code chooses one way to build something, I ask why it picked that path instead of a different one. The answer usually reveals a tradeoff I wouldn't have noticed on my own.

Understanding the reasoning behind a choice, not just accepting the result, is what actually builds your own judgment over time. Owners who only ever see the finished output stay dependent on asking again every time a similar decision comes up. Owners who ask why start recognizing the pattern themselves, which means faster decisions and fewer questions the next time around.

Try this today: on your next build, ask directly why it chose the approach it used instead of an alternative, and write the reason down in your own words for next time.
