Some videos are faster to cut by hand

AI editing tools shine on repeatable, mechanical tasks, but a short, highly stylized video built around precise timing and a specific creative idea is often faster to cut directly than to set up an automated pass for. Fighting a tool to produce something very particular can take longer than just doing it yourself.

Knowing when to skip the automation entirely is its own kind of skill. I still cut plenty of short, simple videos straight on the timeline myself, since setting up a rough cut and a review pass for something that small wastes more time than it saves. A quick, simple edit with a clear vision in your head rarely benefits from a rough cut, a highlight pass, and a review step when you could just open the timeline and cut it in the same amount of time.

Try this today: before reaching for an AI tool on your next edit, ask whether the video is simple and short enough that cutting it by hand would actually be faster. If the answer is yes, skip the setup and just edit it directly.
