Sort your list into urgent and important

Urgent means it feels like it needs attention right now. Important means it actually moves the business forward. The two overlap less often than a busy founder's daily list would suggest, and most days are spent chasing urgent things while important ones quietly wait.

A founder who never separates the two ends up working hard every single day while the business itself barely changes shape from month to month. Sorting the list weekly is a small habit that keeps the important work from getting crowded out by whatever feels loudest. I sort my own list this way most weeks, and the important items almost always lose to whatever feels loudest unless I deal with them first.

Try this today: take this week's task list and mark each item urgent, important, both, or neither. Do the important ones first tomorrow morning, before the urgent ones have a chance to take over your whole day.
