The signal a task is ready to automate

There is a clear signal that a task is ready to automate: you could explain it the exact same way, in the exact same order, to anyone who asked, every single time. If your explanation would change depending on the day, the client, or your mood, the task still needs a person's judgment and is not ready for a system yet. I test this on myself out loud before building anything, and it catches more gaps than I expect.

This matters because trying to automate a task before it is stable enough usually produces a mess that looks finished but breaks the moment something slightly unusual happens. Waiting for that consistent, repeatable explanation to exist means the automation you eventually build actually matches how the task really works, instead of a rushed guess at it.

Try this today: try explaining your next automation candidate out loud, the exact same way, twice in a row. If both explanations match cleanly, it is ready. If they do not, it needs more thought first.
