The pause before you hit enter

Whether you are using a local model or a cloud tool, the same habit protects you either way, a short pause before you actually send the text. Read back over what you are about to paste in and ask whether anything in it would bother you if it somehow ended up somewhere you did not intend.

This pause takes only a few seconds, but it catches the mistakes that slip through everything else, the client name you forgot to remove, the figure that should not have been typed out in full. I still catch myself skipping this pause on my busiest days, which is exactly when I need it most. No privacy setup, local or otherwise, replaces the value of actually looking at what you are sending before you send it.

Build this pause into your routine the same way you would double-check an email before it goes out, as a small habit rather than a big decision each time.

Try this today: before your next AI conversation, pause for a moment and reread what you are about to type before you send it.
