Keep a short list of messages only you get to send

As automation takes over more of your client communication, it helps to protect a small, deliberate list of messages that stay entirely yours to write. These are the moments where a personal touch matters more than speed or consistency, and no template should ever replace them. I keep my own list short on purpose, because the moment it grows too long, none of it feels special anymore.

Think about the messages that carry real weight — celebrating a milestone, addressing a serious concern, saying thank you after a long project wraps up. Keep that list short and specific, and guard it closely, even as everything else around it becomes more automated over time.

The point is knowing exactly where your personal attention adds the most value, so you can spend it there instead of spreading it thin across everything you send.

Try this today: write down the three or four message types you never want an automated system to send on your behalf, and check your current setup respects that list.
