Build vs buy is a real question, answer it on purpose
Whenever a repeated task starts to feel painful, I face an actual choice: buy a tool built for it, or build a small solution myself using something I already have, like a form connected to a shared sheet. Too many businesses never really weigh this, they just default to buying without checking the cheaper path first.
This matters because buying is not always the fast option it appears to be. Setting up a new tool, training your team on it, and connecting it to everything else takes real time too. A simple homemade solution, even a rough one, can sometimes solve the exact same problem in an afternoon without adding a new bill to your stack forever.
Buying does win plenty of the time, especially for anything complex or important enough that reliability matters more than saving a little money. The point is to actually compare the two paths instead of assuming one is always right.
Try this today: pick one recurring headache your team deals with and spend fifteen minutes sketching what a simple homemade fix would look like before you shop for software to solve it.
