Explaining your project out loud finds the gaps

Talking through what you built and why, even alone in your own kitchen, reveals the parts you're fuzzy on before anyone else has to point them out. In your head, an idea can feel complete. Out loud, the gaps show up almost immediately, because spoken words don't let you skip the confusing part the way your thoughts quietly do.

I do this out loud in my own kitchen more often than I'd like to admit, and the stumbling spots always point to the exact part I need to go back and fix. This works even better with another person listening, but it doesn't require one. Explaining to an empty room, or recording yourself and listening back, still forces the same clarity.

Try this today: pick the project you're currently building and explain it out loud, from start to finish, as if you were teaching a friend who knows nothing about it. Notice exactly where you slow down, stumble, or start using vague words like "it just does the thing." That's where to focus next.
