A short weekly check on where things went
Even with good habits, it is worth pausing once a week to think back through what actually got typed into which AI tool. Did anything with a client's private details end up in a general cloud tool by accident, during a rushed moment or a task you were not thinking carefully about. Most weeks the answer will be no, but the occasional slip is exactly what this check is for.
This does not need to be a long process. A few minutes of honest reflection is usually enough to catch a pattern before it becomes a habit, like always defaulting to whatever tool happens to be open rather than the right one for the task. I run this check on myself every week, not because I expect to find much, but because the habit of looking is the whole point.
Treat it the same way you would a quick tidy-up of your workspace, small, regular, and easy to skip if you are not paying attention.
Try this today: spend a few minutes thinking back over this week's AI use and note anything that should have stayed local but did not.
