Announce what you are dropping this month
Announcing what you are dropping means telling your team, out loud, one task or habit you are stepping away from this month. It forces you to actually follow through, since backing out quietly after saying nothing is a lot easier than backing out after telling people.
Founders tend to add responsibilities constantly but rarely subtract any, so the job keeps growing until it no longer fits inside a normal week. Saying the quiet part out loud is often the only thing that actually makes the subtraction stick. I said mine out loud to my own team recently, and knowing they were expecting me to step back made it much harder to quietly pick the task up again.
Try this today: pick one task you do out of habit rather than necessity, and tell your team plainly that you are stepping away from it this month. Let someone else pick it up, or let it simply stop happening.
