Review your footage while it is still fresh

The best time to go through a recording is right after you make it, while you still remember what you meant by every pause and half-finished sentence. Wait too long and you are re-watching a stranger's footage, trying to reconstruct context you have already lost. I try to review every recording within a short window, before the memory of making it fades.

This matters because editing decisions get slower and worse the longer you wait to make them. A moment that seemed obviously worth clipping the day you recorded it can look confusing a stretch of time later, once you have forgotten the reason it stood out. Fresh review protects the quality of your final cuts.
