The computer you already own is probably enough

People assume running an AI model locally needs special hardware, a gaming setup, or a serious budget. For smaller models built to run on regular machines, a normal laptop from the last few years handles it without much trouble. I never bought new hardware just to try this, I started on the same laptop I already had, and it was enough to get going. The model runs a bit slower than a cloud tool, but it works, and it works without sending anything to an outside server.

Where hardware starts to matter is when you want a bigger, sharper local model or you are running it constantly all day. At that point more memory and a faster processor make a real difference in speed. But that is a later problem, not a reason to wait before trying local AI at all.

Start small, see what your current machine can handle, and only think about upgrading once you actually hit a wall.
