Pick a first project you'll actually finish

The best first project with Claude Code isn't the most impressive idea, it's the smallest one you'll actually finish this week. Finishing something small teaches you more than half-finishing something big.

A big ambitious first project tends to stall the moment it gets complicated, and stalling early can convince someone that building their own tools just isn't for them. A small, finishable project, even a modest one, proves to you that the whole approach works, and that confidence carries you into the next, slightly bigger idea. Momentum matters more than ambition at the start. I have watched people quit a project before they ever hit a real wall, simply because it felt too big to start, and I try to remember that every time I scope a new one for myself.

Try this today: shrink your current tool idea down until you're confident you could finish a working version of it by the end of the day, and build that version first.
