Local AI still needs occasional upkeep

It is tempting to set up a local model once and forget about it, since there is no subscription reminder or update notice pushing you to pay attention. But local models improve over time just like anything else, and running an old version for too long means missing out on real gains in quality that a quick update would have handed you for free.

Treat it the way you would treat any other tool sitting quietly in the background of your business, checked on now and then rather than left completely alone. A few minutes every so often to see if a newer version is available is usually all it takes. I check mine every so often myself, usually while I'm already in the settings for something unrelated, and it takes almost no extra effort.

This small bit of upkeep is the price of getting a private tool that keeps getting better instead of slowly falling behind.

Try this today: check whether a newer version of your local model is available, and update it if one is.
