Watch for tools that quietly renew

I keep a short list of every trial and subscription I start, with the date it will auto renew written right next to it. Without that habit, free trials and annual plans slide past unnoticed and turn into charges you never meant to keep paying.

This matters because software companies design their renewal timing to work in their favor, not yours. A trial that seemed harmless when you signed up can turn into a full year of billing before you even remember agreeing to it. Multiply that across a handful of tools and you end up funding a stack you never chose on purpose.

A simple habit fixes most of this. The moment you start any trial or subscription, write down the renewal date somewhere you will actually check, whether that is a calendar reminder or a running list.

Try this today: open your recent card charges and find one subscription you forgot was still running. Cancel it if it is not earning its keep, and set a reminder for every other trial you currently have open.
