Local AI still needs a settings check
Running a model on your own computer solves the biggest privacy problem, keeping your words off someone else's server. It does not automatically solve every other one. Some local AI apps still quietly send usage data back to their maker, or store your conversations in a way you would not expect. The word local describes where the thinking happens, not necessarily where every bit of data ends up. I always run this check on anything new I install, since I've been surprised more than once by a setting that was quietly turned on by default.
Before trusting any tool with sensitive work, take a few minutes to look through its settings and any privacy notes it provides. Turn off anything that sends data out unless you specifically want it to. This is a one-time check, not something you need to redo constantly, but skipping it entirely defeats a lot of the point of going local in the first place.
Try this today: open the settings of whatever local AI tool you use and look specifically for any option related to sending data out.
