Keep two AI tools open, not just one

Most people settle into using a single AI tool for everything, out of habit more than a real decision. A better setup keeps two tools within reach, one local model for anything private or unfinished, and one cloud tool for polished, public-facing work that needs a sharper answer.

Switching between them takes almost no extra effort once it becomes a habit, the same way you might use one app for personal messages and another for work. I keep both open on my own machine now, and switching between them has become as automatic as picking which app to text someone from. The benefit is that you stop making privacy decisions under pressure, because the right tool for the moment is already open and waiting.

This setup also protects you from a single tool going down or changing its terms unexpectedly. Having a backup that lives entirely on your own machine means you are never fully dependent on someone else's server.

Try this today: open your local model alongside your usual cloud tool today and get in the habit of choosing between them before you type anything.
