Write down steps so decisions repeat without you

A written process means the steps behind a recurring decision live on paper, not only in your head. Once they are written, someone else can make the same call you would have made, the same way, without waiting for you to be free.

Every decision that only exists in your head has to pass through you forever, which is exactly the bottleneck busy owners keep complaining about. Writing it down once frees you from answering the same question again and again for the life of the business. I keep a short page for the question I get asked most often, and pointing people to it has saved me from answering the same thing over and over.

Try this today: pick one decision you get asked about often, write out how you actually think through it, step by step, and share it with whoever keeps asking. Let the paper answer next time instead of you.
