Test a local model before you trust it

Before you hand a local model anything that matters, run it through a few tasks where you already know the right answer. Ask it to summarize a paragraph you wrote yourself, or rewrite a sentence you could rewrite in your head anyway. Compare what it gives back against what you expected.

This matters because local models vary a lot in quality, and the only way to know what yours is actually good at is to watch it work on something low stakes first. I still run this check myself with anything new I add to my own setup, before I let it near real client work. Skipping this step means finding out the hard way, usually right when you needed a fast, reliable answer.

Once you have a feel for where it does well and where it struggles, you can start trusting it with real client notes or business writing, but only inside that proven range.
